D9000, 55022 named Royals Scots Grey passes Ponthir in lovely evening sunlight on the 1z57 Cardiff Central to Blackpool via the Marches. The loco had visited the Heart of Wales line, and was in control except for when it was routed the wrong way to Llaneilli instead of being sent up the Port Tablot district lines. This meant 57601 was leading into Cardiff and so then the train was turned via Newport and Maindee Junctions. D9000_Ponthir.JPG

Winstanstowe:The last time I pictured D9000/55022 was when I was very little at Bristol Parkway in Br Two Tone Green livery, which you can see on my early railway pictures Gallery, but few years on despite it set backs being left in open storage at Hornsey and then a long project at Barrow Hill including all the new Main line modifications including OTMR and TPWS fittings, the loco was eventually returned equivalently back to its British rail days, with its famous Royal Scots Grey nameplates, the Br Badges, the black front warning panels and the Br Blue livery. After running overnight from the East Lancastershire Railway to Old Oak Common, then hauling a rake of empty chocolate/cream coaches from Old Oak Common to Cardiff via East Usk Yard for fuel. On the 29th March 2008, D9000/55022 hauled the Heart of Wales Explorer starting as the 1Z45 Cardiff Central to Llandrindod Wells. I photographed Deltic22 this time passing Wistanstowe just north of Cravern Arms. Very nice meeting Jonathan Lewis and his father. 55022_Wistanstowe.jpg
